When you drink alcohol, isn’t it just digested like food? No. The bloodstream takes alcohol right from the stomach and carries it through the whole body, where it enters every tissue within minutes.

Alcohol doesn’t fit into a healthy diet. Alcohol has calories in it, but it lacks vitamins and other content that your body needs to stay strong and to grow.

Anytime you drink alcohol, it can upset your stomach. This happens because alcohol makes the stomach produce more acid. Drinking alcohol over a long time can harm the lining of the stomach and may cause ulcers—sores inside the stomach—or stomach cancer.
